Straddling 15,000 sqft and soaring 200 feet above terra firma, Ekaa is unequivocally the largest penthouse in the big bang city of Bangalore. It is a 360° floating Island in the Sky. The physical design intent aimed at the creation of a ‘barrier free’ limitless expansion of views, vertically to the sky and horizontally to the stunning cityscape. The emotional design intent was to create a space that looked and felt like it lived in the present but was subliminally rooted in tradition. The form of the ‘Mandir’ was derived from the ephemeral lotus, the symbolism of its ‘transcendental purity’ was immaculately in harmony with the holistic design intent. The sky is stripped open above the Mandir to allow ‘effortless meditation’ in direct communion with the heavens above. The gilded bud held within is the home of the gods. The home circumabulates about this axis. This sculptural space is a cosmic capsule of light and shadow ensuring that every moment is encapsulated in its divinity.

The living room is a splendid play of classic lines and playful new age living. The flooring is a sweeping serpentine form of marble and mother of pearl and all the elements have a view above, across and beyond. The sofas are placed in customized clusters of back to back staggers which allows for interpretation of mind, mood and desire. Every detail, the Bidri coffee tables, the metal plant sculptures, the motifs on fabrics echo the saga of synchronicity. The spirituality of the family is translated by design intent which ‘de-stresses and de-clutters’ the senses. The lighting is discreet and inextricably woven in the architectural details of the network of the lines. The ceiling is as pristine as the sky overhead. Mindfulness and thoughtfulness have been philosophies articulated by geometry and form.

Seeing through amber tinted lenses’ takes on a
heightened meaning in this penthouse, the most
exclusive King Fisher Towers in Bangalore. A team of
Italian glass artists flew into the city to construct the
two installations of glass art that anchor the living space
by creating viewing tinted apertures that colour
the space. Expansion, reflection and refraction engage
in the vastness of crafted and curated design.

Nniitaraa is a piece of sculpture with a function. The entry inside is highlighted by a yellow cavern like hollow foyer. Unknown to the entrant, this foyer opens up into a triple height living space. The house now unveils the artfully done interiors.

Located atop the tallest residential building in the city, this penthouse responds to ‘layers and levels,’ using the stairway to express this feeling. The living space is a transition between two spines and the highlight of dark marble creates a defined realm of departure.The views are provocative at the various levels of the journey up and through this sky home.

This floating island in the sky is a tribute to the sky, clouds and the dazzling shimmer of the ethereal lake beyond.
‘Beyond’, ‘Above’ and ‘Surround’ are conceptual poems that are woven into materials, compositions and colors.
The entry is a play of illusionary light wands which creates a thoughtful enchantment as one journeys through the space.
Vistas open vignettes of spaces like a kaleidoscope and serenity is the final transaction.

This architectural project was awarded 'most innovative architectural project' and is artfulness at a level of fullness that is rarefied. The play of a curve intersected by diagonals creates a habitat of unpredictability that unfolds like a saga of joyful mystique as it unfolds, weaving the onlooker into an odyssey that quietens the mind but sharpens the senses. The calibration of spaces is sophisticated as geometries are employed which are rarely, if ever, seen co habiting boldly albeit gracefully. The resultant imagery is vibrant, immense and intense. Every space unfolds into the other in majestic embrace, compelling a journey that transcends the perceived parameters of space. Dimensions within vignettes, vignettes within volumes, spaces within places. Every shadow revives the memory, the banyan roots retrace history and the surprising openness revisits the horizon. On▷ walks into a three dimensional watercolor moving from ochre to vermillion, burnt umber to ecru. Time flies as you are carried on the wings of change.

A play of geometry on the façade, one can call the Poddar House ‘A signature of style and substance’. The exterior jaali is made of vertical and horizontal rectangles in various sizes. This geometric façade forms a wrap, maintaining its independence from the vastu complaint structure inside.

The bulk of the building is forbidding and needs delicacy to it. The jaali which you see 4 feet outside is the key solution to this. the ‘finger wall’, as we call it, envelopes the structure and functions as a sculpture casting an interesting play of shadows.

Our home ‘Kasbah’ meaning magical homes erupting from the earth, was conceived while on holiday in Morocco. The magic is intact, for Kasbah has grown wings and has embraced the sky- a penthouse filled with air, light and tantalizing views. A truly resonant space with chiseled architectural articulation, mood altering lighting and beautiful bones begs little and appropriate furniture, and entirely holds its own with a monastic, spiritual experience, the result I suppose of a 4-year degree at Parsons, New York. - Husna Rahaman

The 'toilet' is inarguably the most private space there is. It is within the confines of this space that I believe we give flight to the inner being. The boundaries of life and the liberation of this space are symbolically reflected in a concept wherein the design provokes an intellectual investigation of the space we commonly call the 'toilet' It is here that we uncloak not merely in the physical sense. It is a profoundly spiritual space. This design gives it the monastic reverence it deserves.

Resurrecting the past and making it ‘here and now,’ we worked with a languishing group of craftsmen from Bidar, Karnataka who were abandoning their craft due to increasing irrelevance in the modern age. We interpreted this craft in a modern context and brought its awareness into center stage. Bidri is created by casting an alloy of copper and zinc, hand etching designs into the metal and inlaying silver foil or wire into the grooves. The design works with a gradation of circular motifs of pure silver, making a piece of art with a compelling story of India’s fading and forgotten art and artisans.

This is furniture design that truly delves deep into the intellectual sea of 'reinvention and regeneration'. It combines pure modern form of a single sleek curve which sits on a pebble shaped wooden base with majestic embellished silver. The sleek curve wears this silver skin like a snug jacket and rests on the dark wooden pebble....and then to truly spin the mind we spin the body as well. A kinetic experience is made possible by creating a 360 degree swivel. The true splendor of the kinetic motion as it captures the beauty of form and lustre of silver is best viewed in the video.
